SUPER FRIDAY

Super Friday – A New Standard

Once known as the family day of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, Super Friday has transformed into something truly extraordinary this year.

While Fridays at other Grands Prix often attract modest crowds, Zandvoort was buzzing with energy, drawing in 25.000 fans during the Closing Party. With a fresh vision and substantial investment in entertainment, the kick-off to race weekend has redefined what Fridays at Formula 1 events can be.

Sonja van der Zee, Entertainment Producer at SportVibes, reflects on this year’s success: “The most exciting part of this role is constantly pushing our limits. Each edition starts with a blank canvas. While we have a blueprint from last year, it’s innovation that drives us forward. That’s how Super Friday came to life this year.”

Super Friday is no longer just about the race—it has become a full-scale entertainment extravaganza.

More Than Just Racing

The weekend began with a dynamic Opening Show in the Fanzone, featuring exclusive interviews with top Formula 1 drivers and early performances by Snollebollekes, setting the stage for a day full of excitement.

Alongside the Formula 1 and F1 Academy practice sessions, fans were treated to the Dutch GP Trackshow, followed by live performances from Dutch music icons Yves BerendseXander de BuisonjéWolter Kroes and DI-RECT. The momentum kept building throughout the day, culminating in the Dutch GP Closing Party.

As Sonja explains: “We wanted a lineup that would set the tone for the whole weekend, which is why we brought in an international artist—like Armin van Buuren, along with a spectacular drone show to elevate the experience.”

A Grand Finale

“The highlight of the day? The Dutch GP Closing Party!” With over 25,000 fans staying late into the night, Armin van Buuren delivered an electrifying performance, made even more memorable by a stunning drone show. The night sky above Zandvoort came alive with images of Formula 1 cars and the message “F1 Loves Zandvoort,” creating an unforgettable climax to an incredible day.

As Sonja puts it: “Super Friday’s success has set us on the right path. It’s clear that by merging entertainment with the racing experience, we’ve found a winning formula. Not only it enhances the fan experience but also serves commercial goals such as ticket sales, attractive partnership opportunities, and increased revenue. In this way, entertainment shifts from being just an expense to a strategic investment that contributes to both organizational and commercial goals. We’re already planning to expand this approach to Saturday, making the event even more appealing to international fans.”

Setting the Stage for More

With its innovative approach and standout entertainment offerings, Super Friday has established itself as a key feature of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix. It’s no longer just a warm-up—it’s a showcase in its own right, setting the stage for an unforgettable race weekend.
